The venue boasts over 300 rooms, but with a major restoration project underway and visitor access to restored rooms, our own event access will be via the South West Wing, where signing on will take place in the Low Drawing Room, directions will be provided on the day. We don’t however have the option of changing rooms and showers at the venue but we do have a dedicated parking area close to the start and finish.
The Wentworth Woodhouse Estate covers 82 acres of park land which is shared with herds of cattle and red deer, although we don’t expect them to come near to the race it will be the stag rutting season and so there could be some unplanned movement. In the unlikely event that deer do encroach into the venue area, please don’t approach or startle them.
During the event, public access will be maintained with vehicle movements in and out of the visitor car park , which lies on the opposite edge of the circuit to that of the event parking. Visitors are vital to the long-term restoration of the house and we therefore ask that all who are associated with the event do their best to not negatively affect the visitor experience. At key points of contact we will have radio linked marshals in place to ensure that priority goes to the passage of the race and its convoy.
As the race turns in front of the house and at the gateway beyond the parking area there are cattle grids, which aren’t rider safe, these will be boarded over but this can’t take place until the morning of the event due to the risk of deer escaping the parkland. Elsewhere in the parkland the cattle grids are safe to negotiate but will be marked with red flags with also straw bales providing protection at gateways. The route through the parkland beyond the finish is a public right of way, but all movement is to be suspended for the day of the event. We do however ask that marshals and forward convoy drivers remain vigilant for anyone choosing to ignore instructions.
Training access through the parkland is likely to be restricted before race day as the formal road closure won’t be in place.
Our pedestrian access route within the house will be along stone floors, but the signing-on room features polished hardwood flooring, please therefore remove any cycling shoes before entering the room.
Food vending will be sited within the Event Space close to the finish and there will be portable toilets close to the event parking, please note that toilet-use of the parkland is prohibited and those riders ignoring this will be immediately disqualified.
