The UK School Games incorporating The Inter-regional Road and Track Championships
This year Loughborogh will host The UK School Games between 30th August and 2nd September (the team will travel to the event on Thursday 30th). Backed by the Youth Sports Trust and The National Lottery, The School Games is a multi-million pound sporting event; effectively a youth Olympic Games with opening/closing ceremonies etc. Around 2500 athletes will stay together in an athletes village and compete for their regions across 12 Olympic Sports.
This year both Road and Track racing will be incorporated into the event. This means we will be looking for youth A riders with experience of both Road and Track racing. The team will be made up of four boys and four girls. The Track racing will involve Scratch and Elimination races, there will also be a timed technical challenge, removing and replacing Wheels, Chain Rings and Sprockets. The Road racing will include Street Sprints from standing starts and Road races.
The Inter-regional Mountain Bike Championships
This years MTB Championships takes place at the Olympic venue at Hadleigh farm, Essex from the 14th to the 16th September. The team will be made up of four boys and four girls. In the past the competition has included dirt crit races, skills competition, cross country as well as uphill mass start races.
Selection Criteria for Inter Regional Championships
The selection of all three teams will be made by The British Cycling Yorkshire Selection Panel. A team manager and coach will be appointed for each event. Overall factors which may affect selection include:
• Performances in specific race series/competitions specified on next page.
• Availability.
• Personal behaviour and discipline.
• Application, ability and attitude displayed at Regional Schools of Racing and other training events promoted by the region.
The following race series will be used as a basis for selection for each of the three regional teams (national events will take priority of over regional events):
